Rotala sp. 'Butterfly'
Origin: Cultivar
Rotala 'Butterfly' is a rare cultivar featuring delicate, narrow leaves with a warm pink-to-red hue that resembles butterfly wings in motion. It grows in tight, feathery clusters that add fine texture to the aquascape. High light and CO2 are essential for maintaining the distinctive colouration; under lower light the leaves become green and leggy.
High light (60–100+ µmol/m²/s) and CO2 injection required for best colour. pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 22–28°C, GH 2–12, KH 0–6. Nutrient-rich substrate or regular liquid fertiliser dosing for iron and micros. Prune regularly — pinch tops to encourage lateral branching. Replant trimmed cuttings to fill background space.
