Rotala nanjenshan
Also known as: Nanjenshan Rotala, Taiwan Rotala
Origin: Taiwan
Rotala nanjenshan is a species native to southern Taiwan, producing small, narrow leaves along delicate stems that flush vivid orange-red under strong lighting and CO2 supplementation. It is less common in the hobby than other Rotala species, making the tissue culture form a convenient and clean way to obtain it. Growth is moderate and the plant forms upright columns that can be shaped into elegant midground or background accents. It performs best in soft, slightly acidic water with iron-rich fertilisation. Plant in dense groups for maximum colour impact. Trimming encourages lateral branching and a bushier, more colourful display. A rewarding species for hobbyists looking to diversify their red-plant palette.
Light: High CO2: Required Fertilisation: Iron-rich micro dosing; balanced macros Placement: Midground columns or background Propagation: Top cuttings; side shoots emerge from trimmed stems
