Rotala rotundifolia
Origin: Southeast Asia
Rotala rotundifolia is one of the most widely kept stem plants in the hobby, valued for its graceful appearance and the beautiful green-to-orange-red colour transition that develops under stronger lighting. Slender stems and small leaves create a delicate, wispy texture that complements bolder foreground plants in Dutch and nature-style compositions. It is forgiving of a range of water parameters, making it ideal for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike.
Adaptable to a wide range of conditions; grows well in medium to high light with or without CO2. Dose liquid fertilisers regularly to prevent nutrient deficiency. Trim regularly by removing the top 5–10 cm and replanting to achieve a dense colony. Higher light and CO2 produce more vivid orange-red colouration. Suitable for hard and soft water.
