Rotala rotundifolia
Also known as: Green Rotala, Round-leaf Toothcup
Origin: Southeast Asia
Rotala rotundifolia Green is a colour-stable selection that consistently produces bright, lime-green foliage regardless of light intensity. Its small, oval leaves are identical in shape to the classic red form but never develop red pigmentation, making it an ideal companion for red Rotalas and Ludwigias in Dutch-style columns. The plant is equally fast-growing and responds well to regular pruning with dense lateral branching.
Light: Low to high (20–80 PAR); colour remains consistently green across the range. CO2: Beneficial at 15–25 mg/L; grows well without injection in low-tech setups. Fertiliser: Balanced NPK liquid fertiliser weekly; ensure sufficient potassium. Planting: Background groups of 5–9 stems spaced 2 cm apart; trim every 2 weeks. Growth: Fast; reaches 20–40 cm; prune tops to encourage lateral branching.
