Rotala rotundifolia
Also known as: H'ra Rotala, Vietnam Rotala
Origin: Vietnam
Collected from wild Vietnamese populations near H'ra, this selection of Rotala rotundifolia is distinguished by its ability to produce intense magenta and deep pink tip colouration that is more saturated and longer-lasting than typical red forms. It requires soft, slightly acidic water to perform optimally. The plant has become a favourite among competition aquascapers for the distinct reddish-pink hue it imparts to background plantings.
Light: High (70–100 PAR); intense light needed for full magenta expression. CO2: Required at 25–35 mg/L; critical for colour development and growth rate. Fertiliser: High iron, micronutrients, and potassium; use quality all-in-one fertiliser daily. Planting: Background groups of 5–7 stems in soft, slightly acidic substrate; trim weekly. Growth: Fast; 20–40 cm; tip colour is most vivid on the newest growth.
