Rotala rotundifolia 'Orange Juice'
Also known as: Orange Juice Rotala, OJ Rotala
Origin: Southeast Asia (cultivar)
Rotala rotundifolia 'Orange Juice' is a selected colour form of the most popular Rotala species in the hobby, chosen for its remarkably consistent brilliant orange-yellow leaf colouration that distinguishes it from both the red-orange Colorata and the pink-magenta H'ra forms. Where Colorata tends toward red-orange and H'ra toward deep pink, 'Orange Juice' holds a pure, saturated orange-yellow tone that is difficult to achieve with other Rotala varieties. Under high light it glows with an almost luminous warmth that makes it invaluable as a colour accent in Dutch-style aquascapes. It grows at a moderate to fast pace and responds well to regular trimming by branching densely.
Light: High (50–65 PAR); essential for the characteristic orange-yellow pigmentation. CO2: Required at 20–30 mg/L; maintains compact growth and colour saturation. Fertilisation: Comprehensive iron-rich dosing; micronutrient balance important for colour. Placement: Midground to background; stunning in tight groups as an orange accent. Propagation: Trim 8–10 cm tips and replant; branches prolifically with regular trimming.
