Rotala sp. 'H'ra'
Origin: Southeast Asia
Rotala sp. 'H'ra' is a highly sought-after stem plant from Southeast Asia celebrated for its brilliant orange-red coloration under intense lighting. The fine, needle-like leaves create exceptional textural contrast with broader-leafed species, making it a favourite in detail-oriented Dutch and nature aquascapes. Consistent CO2 injection and high-output lighting are essential to achieve and maintain the signature fiery coloration.
Demands high-intensity lighting and injected CO2 (25–35 ppm). Use a nutrient-rich substrate and supplement liquid iron and micros. Soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.5–7.0) is essential for deep red pigmentation. Trim stems when they reach 30–35 cm and replant tops. Avoid shading and insufficient fertilisation, which cause green colouration.
