Rotala sp. 'Nanjenshan'
Also known as: Nanjenshan Rotala, Taiwan Rotala
Origin: Taiwan
Rotala sp. 'Nanjenshan' was first collected from the Nanjenshan area of southern Taiwan and is widely grown in East Asian aquascaping circles. It bridges the gap between standard Rotala rotundifolia and the more demanding Rotala H'ra, offering reliable red-pink colouration without the strictest water chemistry requirements. Its small, oval leaves develop intense colour at the growing tips under high light and the plant responds well to regular trimming which encourages lateral branching and a bushier form.
Light: High; 60–85 PAR for vivid red-pink colouration. CO2: Beneficial; 20–30 ppm for compact growth and colour. Water: pH 6.0–7.2, soft to slightly hard. Planting: Plant groups of 5–7 stems in the background; trim tops every 2–3 weeks. Growth: Moderate; colour is most vivid at new growth tips.
