Rotala sp. 'Vietnam H'ra'
Also known as: Vietnam H'ra Rotala, Vietnamese Magenta Rotala
Origin: Vietnam
Rotala sp. 'Vietnam H'ra' is a highly regarded collector form sourced from Vietnam, distinguished from the more common H'ra by its narrower leaf profile and even more saturated magenta-pink pigmentation. Under high light and CO2 injection in soft, slightly acidic water, the stems develop an almost fluorescent intensity of colour that makes it one of the most visually impactful red-pink stem plants available. It grows at a moderate pace, responding to regular trimming by branching densely, creating lush columns of colour in the midground or background. A must-have species for dedicated high-tech planted aquarium enthusiasts.
Light: High (50+ PAR); essential for deep magenta colouration. CO2: Required at 25–35 mg/L; colouration fades significantly without injection. Fertilisation: High iron and micronutrient dosing; dedicated red-plant fertilisers recommended. Placement: Midground to background; stunning in groups of 5+ stems. Propagation: Cut top 8–10 cm and replant; side shoots develop rapidly after trimming.
