Pellia endiviifolia
Also known as: Round Pellia, Pellia
Origin: Europe, Asia
Round Pellia (Pellia endiviifolia) is a common aquatic liverwort found along the stream margins of Europe and Asia, where it forms flat, lobed mats on wet rocks and soil. In the aquarium it grows as a dense, dark-green carpet that clings to rocks, substrate, and wood without needing thread or glue. Unlike true mosses it has no distinct stem or leaves, creating a smooth, flowing visual texture.
Light: low light sufficient; brighter light intensifies the green colour. CO2: not required; thrives in low-tech setups without injection. Attachment: place directly on surfaces; thalli self-adhere to rough rocks and root tabs enhance anchoring. Trimming: tear away excess growth by hand; the flat thalli are easy to thin without tools. Growth: moderate; propagate by splitting and placing new portions on target surfaces.
