Sagittaria graminea
Also known as: Grass-leaf Sagittaria, Grassy Arrowhead
Origin: North America
Sagittaria graminea is a North American species native to streams, rivers, and lake margins from Canada to Mexico. In its submerged form it produces slender, linear leaves that are wider than S. subulata but narrower than S. platyphylla, occupying a useful middle ground between foreground carpeting and tall background plantings. It grows at a moderate pace without CO2 supplementation and tolerates a wide range of water parameters, including cooler temperatures that make it suitable for temperate and subtropical setups. Its upright, slightly arching leaves create natural-looking midground clumps that pair beautifully with Vallisneria in background positions and with shorter carpet plants in the foreground.
Light: Low to medium (20–50 PAR); grows steadily under standard aquarium lighting. CO2: Not required; benefits modestly from supplementation. Fertilisation: Root tabs every 3–4 months; liquid fertiliser every 1–2 weeks. Placement: Midground to background; groups of 5–8 create a natural meadow effect. Propagation: Produces lateral runners; separate daughter plants when they develop strong roots.
