Sagittaria weatherbiana
Also known as: Weatherby's Sagittaria, Slender Arrowhead
Origin: North America (SE USA)
Sagittaria weatherbiana is a relatively uncommon Sagittaria species native to freshwater habitats in the southeastern United States. Its submerged leaves are exceptionally narrow — almost grass-like in appearance — and stand upright in a tidy, compact cluster. At 15–35 cm it occupies an ideal midground niche, providing a naturalistic, meadow-like visual between lower carpeting plants and taller background species. Like all North American Sagittaria it is adaptable to a range of water parameters and grows without CO2 supplementation. In low-tech aquariums it is reliable and undemanding, slowly spreading by runners to form attractive natural-looking stands.
Light: Low to medium (20–50 PAR); compact upright growth maintained under moderate light. CO2: Not required; grows steadily on ambient dissolved CO2. Fertilisation: Root tabs every 4 months; light liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks. Placement: Midground; plant in groups of 5–8 for a meadow effect. Propagation: Runners produced at a moderate pace; sever and replant daughter plants as needed.
