Salvinia natans
Origin: Europe, Asia
Salvinia natans is a small, free-floating aquatic fern native to Europe and Asia. Its paired oval leaves float on the surface with submerged feathery roots that act as a natural filter. Fast-growing and excellent for providing shade, reducing algae, and offering cover for surface-dwelling fish. Also suitable for garden ponds during the warmer months. A classic choice for biotope tanks featuring European or Asian fish species. Completely non-invasive within the aquarium.
Float freely. Trim or harvest excess growth regularly. Do not submerge. Temperature 18–28 °C; tolerates cool water. Low light sufficient. Suitable for unheated tanks and outdoor ponds in summer (May–September in Belgium).
