Taxiphyllum sp. 'Spiky'
Also known as: Spiky Moss
Origin: Asia
Spiky Moss (Taxiphyllum sp. 'Spiky') is a popular cultivar in the aquascape hobby, recognisable by its rigid fronds that project outward in all directions rather than lying flat. This three-dimensional growth habit makes it particularly effective for creating depth and contrast in layouts. It is hardy and undemanding, tolerating a wide range of water conditions while maintaining its characteristic spiky form.
Light: low to medium light; maintains spiky form well under a variety of intensities. CO2: not required; CO2 accelerates growth without significantly altering the spiky habit. Attachment: bind to wood or rock with cotton thread; stiff fronds help it anchor naturally over time. Trimming: trim to a rounded dome shape; avoid cutting too deep to preserve the spiky outer layer. Growth: slow to moderate; divide healthy portions to propagate.
