Staurogyne repens
Origin: Brazil (Porto Velho, Rondônia)
The 'Porto Velho' collection form of Staurogyne repens originates from the Rondônia state of Brazil and is appreciated for its slightly more compact, densely branching growth compared to the standard form. It produces small, rounded, bright green leaves and creeps horizontally across the substrate, forming an ideal low foreground carpet. With moderate lighting and CO2 supplementation it develops into a lush, tight mat that frames the aquascape beautifully.
Plant individual stems in small clusters 2–3 cm apart in nutrient-rich substrate. Trim regularly to encourage lateral growth and bushiness. Benefits greatly from CO2 injection and balanced macro/micro fertilization. Medium lighting (30–50 PAR) is sufficient; high light causes compact, even denser growth. Remove yellowing or dead leaves promptly. Easy to propagate by side-shoot cuttings.
