Staurogyne sp.
Also known as: Red Staurogyne
Origin: Asia (exact collection uncertain)
Staurogyne sp. Red is a coveted variant of the Staurogyne genus notable for its foliage which shifts from deep green toward reddish-bronze or copper tones under intense lighting and CO2-enriched conditions. The tissue culture form provides a clean, pest-free start in any planted tank. Growth form mirrors S. repens — low, compact, and branching — but the warm leaf colouration sets this plant apart as a distinctive foreground accent. Iron-rich fertilisation intensifies the red pigmentation. Plant in groups of 5–7 stems for maximum visual impact. Works beautifully as a transitional plant between green carpet species and red midground elements. Best results in soft, slightly acidic water.
Light: High CO2: Required for red colouration Fertilisation: Iron-rich micro dosing essential for colour expression Placement: Foreground accent or carpet Propagation: Trim side branches and replant
