Leptodictyum riparium
Origin: Cosmopolitan (Europe, Asia, Americas)
Leptodictyum riparium, the Stringy Moss or Willow Moss, produces long, thin, trailing strands that drift gracefully in aquarium current, creating a beautiful weeping willow effect. It is cosmopolitan in the wild, occurring in streams and ponds across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Extremely undemanding, it thrives in low-light, low-tech setups and attaches readily to driftwood and rocks. Its trailing strands provide ideal refuge and spawning cover for fry and shy invertebrates.
Attach to driftwood or rocks using thread or glue; it will self-attach over time. No CO2 or high lighting required — a true low-tech plant. Moderate flow helps deliver nutrients and prevents debris accumulation. Trim periodically to maintain desired shape. Can be propagated by simple division. Suitable for cold-water setups as well as tropical tanks.
