Taxiphyllum alternans
Origin: Southeast Asia
Taxiphyllum alternans, Taiwan Moss, is a popular and widely available aquarium moss from Southeast Asia known for its neat, triangular branching pattern that creates a dense, compact, bright-green covering on driftwood, rocks, and mesh backgrounds. Its regular, attractive form distinguishes it from the more irregular growth of Java or Christmas Moss. It thrives in a wide range of conditions, making it one of the most beginner-friendly mosses in the hobby.
Attach to driftwood or rocks using fine fishing line, cotton thread, or aquarium-safe glue; will self-attach over time. No CO2 or high lighting required. Moderate flow keeps fronds open and prevents debris accumulation. Trim periodically to maintain desired density. Propagate by division. Tolerates a wide range of water chemistry and temperatures from cool to tropical.
