Trithuria submersa
Also known as: Hydatella, Threadwort
Origin: Australia
Trithuria submersa (formerly Hydatella inconspicua) belongs to one of the most primitive lineages of flowering plants, the Hydatellaceae, and is found in seasonal pools of Australia. In the aquarium it forms minuscule star-shaped rosettes of threadlike leaves just 1–4 cm tall, making it the most diminutive aquatic plant offered in the specialty trade. It demands pristine soft water, high light, and CO2, and is best maintained in dedicated high-tech nano setups. Its botanical rarity alone makes it a prize for serious planted tank collectors.
Light: High; 80–100 PAR; full-spectrum LED essential. CO2: Required; 25–35 ppm; stable injection is critical. Water: pH 5.5–6.5, very soft (GH 0–4), near-zero KH. Planting: Plant micro-rosettes into fine substrate; extremely sensitive to disturbance. Growth: Very slow; handle with care; stable parameters are paramount.
