Blyxa japonica
Origin: Southeast Asia, Japan
Blyxa japonica is a graceful grass-like aquatic plant from Southeast Asia with slender golden-green leaves that sway beautifully in current. A classic Nature Aquarium species popularized by the legendary aquascaper Takashi Amano for its natural, meadow-like appearance in midground compositions. Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-Grow tissue culture cup with approximately 25 sterile, pest-free plantlets. Benefits from CO2 injection and medium lighting for optimal growth and golden-green coloration.
Rinse tissue culture gel thoroughly before planting individual rosettes in small clusters 2–3 cm apart in nutrient-rich substrate. Benefits from CO2 injection and comprehensive liquid fertilization. Medium lighting produces the characteristic golden-green tone — strong light can shift coloration toward amber-gold. Trim runners to maintain desired density. Excellent choice for shrimp tanks due to tissue culture sterility.
