Marsilea hirsuta
Origin: Australia
Marsilea hirsuta is an Australian aquatic fern that produces charming four-leaf clover-shaped fronds and forms a dense, low-growing carpet under medium to good lighting. Notably adaptable, it can be maintained as a fully submerged aquarium plant or as an emersed paludarium plant. Its distinctive leaf shape adds visual interest distinct from typical grass or round-leaved foreground plants. Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-Grow tissue culture cup with approximately 25 clean, pest-free plantlets.
Plant individual plantlets 2–3 cm apart. No CO2 required — grows reasonably well in low-tech conditions. Medium lighting produces compact growth; low light slows carpeting. Benefits from root-zone fertilization with tabs or nutritious substrate. Tolerant of a wide range of water chemistry. Propagates readily via runners once established.
