Pogostemon helferi
Origin: Thailand
Pogostemon helferi, popularly known as 'Downoi' or 'Little Star', is a striking Thai aquatic plant with distinctive wavy, star-shaped leaves in vivid lime-green that form charming compact rosette clusters directly on the substrate. Its unique leaf form sets it apart from all other foreground or midground plants. Demands high lighting and CO2 injection to thrive, but rewards the extra investment with an exceptional, unusual aquascape element. Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-Grow tissue culture cup with approximately 25 pest-free plantlets.
Plant individual rosettes on the substrate. CO2 injection (>20 ppm) and high lighting are required — without both, the plant deteriorates rapidly. Dose comprehensive liquid fertilizer regularly. The wavy leaf margins are characteristic and indicate healthy growth; flat, elongated leaves signal insufficient light. Propagate by separating daughter plants. Best displayed in groups of 3–5 rosettes for visual impact.
