Rotala rotundifolia
Origin: Southeast Asia
Rotala rotundifolia is one of the most widely grown and beloved background stem plants in the hobby, producing masses of small, rounded leaves along freely branching stems that shift from green to vivid pink-red under high lighting with good nutrition. Fast-growing and highly responsive to trimming, it excels in creating layered, gradient background effects with rich color. Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-Grow tissue culture cup with approximately 25 sterile plantlets.
Plant bunches of 5–7 stems in substrate. CO2 injection and high lighting intensify the pink-red coloration; in low light the plant remains green and grows more slowly. Trim the tops regularly and replant side shoots to create a full, dense background. Dose iron-rich fertilizer to enhance red pigmentation. One of the easiest and most rewarding stem plants available.
