Utricularia graminifolia
Origin: Asia (Sri Lanka, India, Southeast Asia)
Utricularia graminifolia is a carnivorous bladderwort from Asia that forms a lush, fine-textured bright green carpet resembling grass, while feeding through microscopic bladder traps on tiny organisms in the water column and substrate. When successfully established under high-tech conditions it produces one of the most visually impressive carpets in aquascaping. Demanding but spectacular. Supplied as a Tropica 1-2-Grow tissue culture cup with approximately 25 plantlets.
Requires high lighting (>80 PAR at substrate), CO2 injection (>25 ppm), and consistently soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.0–7.0, GH < 8). Plant small tufts 1 cm apart on fine substrate. The plant draws on microfauna from the water column — ensure adequate biological activity. Once established it creates a dense carpet; before establishment it may appear to melt and regrow multiple times. One of the most challenging but rewarding carpeting plants.
