Blyxa japonica
Origin: Japan, Southeast Asia
Blyxa japonica is a graceful, grass-like plant from Japan with narrow, slightly translucent green leaves that develop attractive golden-orange hues under high lighting — a characteristic celebrated in Takashi Amano's Nature Aquarium compositions. Tropica's tissue culture form is pest-free and establishes quickly in nutrient-rich substrates. CO2 injection is recommended for robust, bushy growth as a midground focal point.
Plant in nutrient-rich substrate in clumps of 3–5 plants. High lighting and CO2 injection develop the characteristic golden-orange tone and bushy, dense growth form. Under lower light the plant remains green and grows more sparsely. Fertilize comprehensively with macro and micro nutrients. Propagate by dividing rosettes.
