Anubias barteri var. nana
Origin: West Africa
Anubias barteri var. nana is one of the most iconic and widely kept aquarium plants, bearing broad, glossy, dark green leaves on a creeping rhizome that attaches naturally to rocks and driftwood. Extraordinarily tough and adaptable, it thrives in low-light, low-tech aquariums and tolerates a very wide range of water conditions, fish, and even herbivorous species that would destroy most other plants. Supplied as a healthy, established Tropica potted plant.
Attach the rhizome to driftwood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe glue — never bury the rhizome in substrate as it will rot. No CO2 or high lighting required — excess light causes algae growth on the slow-growing leaves. Remove algae-covered old leaves with scissors. Propagate by dividing the rhizome. One of the most forgiving and long-lived aquarium plants.
