Rotala sp. 'H'ra'
Also known as: Rotala H'ra, Orange Rotala, Compact Red Rotala
Origin: South-East Asia (specific origin debated)

Rotala sp. 'H'ra' is a striking color cultivar of the Rotala genus, believed to be a species from Southeast Asia or a selected form of related Rotala species. It produces small, narrow leaves in vivid orange-red to scarlet coloration under strong light and CO2 — one of the most intensely colored and warmly hued stem plants available in the aquascaping hobby.
The warm, fiery orange-red of H'ra is distinct from the cooler pinkish-red of Rotala macrandra or the more orange-tinted Rotala macrandra 'Red': H'ra tends toward a more amber-orange-red gradient, making it particularly effective in aquascapes using warm color palettes.
Under ideal conditions with strong light, CO2 injection, and iron-rich fertilization, Rotala H'ra develops its maximum color intensity. In lower light or without CO2, the leaves remain in shades of green to pale pink. The plant grows moderately fast and requires regular trimming to maintain bushy, colorful upper portions while replacing bare lower stems.
Tropica offers this as a specialist aquascaping plant from their professional cultivation range, providing consistent color quality.
Light: High light required (50–100+ PAR) for maximum red-orange coloration.
CO2: Essential (20–30 mg/L) for vivid coloration and healthy compact growth.
Nutrients: Iron and micronutrient supplementation critical for color development. Comprehensive liquid fertilization regimen needed.
Placement: Background accent plant. Groups of 5–9 stems for visual impact. Trim tops regularly and replant.
Maintenance: Regular trimming every 2 weeks. Replant tops. Remove bare lower sections.
Water Parameters: pH 5.5–7.0, temperature 22–28°C, soft to moderately hard water (GH 2–12).
