Utricularia graminifolia
Also known as: Grass Bladderwort, UG, Graminifolia
Origin: Southeast Asia, South Asia (TC cultivar)
Utricularia graminifolia is a carnivorous aquatic plant native to South and Southeast Asia, where it grows in shallow, nutrient-poor wetlands. In the aquarium it forms a fine, grass-like bright green carpet of narrow leaves with tiny bladder traps hidden in the substrate, capable of catching microscopic organisms. It is a favourite for Nature Aquarium foreground carpets, valued for its fine texture and the fascinating biological curiosity of its carnivorous nature. The TC format ensures clean, algae-free plantlets for a contaminant-free start.
Light: Medium to high; carpets only under moderate to strong lighting. CO2: Beneficial; CO2 injection significantly improves growth rate and carpet density. Substrate: Fine, nutrient-poor substrate preferred — ironic for a planted tank; inert fine sand works well. Planting: Rinse TC gel; plant small plugs 2–3 cm apart; anchors in 2–4 weeks. Growth: Moderate; once anchored spreads rapidly — thin periodically to maintain an even, tidy carpet.
