Utricularia sandersonii
Also known as: Sanderson's Bladderwort, Bunny Ears Bladderwort
Origin: South Africa
Utricularia sandersonii is a diminutive carnivorous bladderwort from South Africa that forms a bright-green, moss-like carpet in moist substrate. Its tiny bladder traps capture microscopic organisms, providing supplemental nutrition. The tissue culture form eliminates pest introductions in this delicate plant. It excels in emersed paludarium and terrarium environments but also performs in shallow aquariums or foreground zones with high humidity. Under good conditions it produces an abundance of tiny white flowers with a yellow spot, resembling miniature orchid blooms. Growth is slow to moderate but undemanding as far as light and fertilisation go. Best kept in wet or very moist, low-nutrient conditions to prevent aggressive algae competition.
Light: Medium CO2: Not required Fertilisation: Minimal — low-nutrient conditions preferred Placement: Foreground carpet; ideal for paludariums and terrariums Propagation: Naturally spreads; divide mat sections
