Vallisneria americana
Also known as: Mini Twister Vallisneria, Small Corkscrew Val
Origin: Cultivar (species: North America)
Vallisneria americana 'Mini Twister' is a compact cultivar bred to combine the gentle spiral of corkscrew Vallisneria with a restrained stature of 20–40 cm, filling the niche between the dwarf V. nana and the much larger spiralling forms. Its tightly coiled leaves add textural interest to the midground without the overpowering scale of V. gigantea or V. americana, and it grows with the same ease and hard-water tolerance as all Vallisneria species. It is ideal for medium-sized planted community tanks where a visually distinctive mid-to-background plant is needed without the commitment of a very tall species. Runners are produced at a manageable rate.
Light: Low to medium (20–50 PAR); compact form and spiralling maintained across a broad light range. CO2: Not required; optional supplementation accelerates growth slightly. Fertilisation: Root tabs every 3–4 months; occasional liquid iron and micronutrients. Placement: Midground; groups of 5–8 create a charming spiral meadow effect. Propagation: Lateral runners produced steadily; detach and replant daughter plants as desired.
