Vallisneria spiralis Italian Val

Vallisneria spiralis is a classic ribbon-leaved background plant that creates a lush green backdrop in aquariums. It spreads freely by horizontal runners, quickly covering the substrate. Very undemanding in terms of light and fertilisation, making it ideal for beginners and low-tech setups. Suitable for large fish tanks as tough leaves resist grazing.

Plant in sand or fine gravel. No CO2 needed. Spreads by runners — remove excess runners to control spread. Thrives in harder, more alkaline water, unlike most aquarium plants. Does not tolerate CO2-induced pH drops below 6.5. Avoid touching the growing tip. Excellent for Rift Lake cichlid tanks.
