Vesicularia sp. 'Singapore'

Vesicularia sp. 'Singapore' is a trade variety of Vesicularia moss originally imported from Singapore, known for its rounded, glossy leaf-like structures and vigorous growth rate relative to most aquatic mosses. It forms dense, cushion-like mounds of lush medium-green and is less demanding than many ornamental moss varieties, making it a popular choice for beginner planted tank enthusiasts and shrimp keepers. It grows well on driftwood, rocks, and mesh substrate screens.

This moss is particularly popular in Southeast Asian aquarium hobby circles, where it is frequently used as a low-maintenance carpet alternative, a spawning substrate for egg-scattering fish, and a grazing surface for neocaridina and caridina shrimp. It tolerates a broad range of water parameters and does not require CO2, though supplemental CO2 and regular liquid fertilisation improve the density and vibrancy of the growth. Regular trimming prevents overgrowth and maintains a clean, compact appearance.

Light: Low to medium; adapts to a wide range of light levels; stronger light accelerates growth. CO2: Not required; one of the more forgiving Vesicularia species in non-CO2 planted setups. Fertilisation: Monthly liquid micronutrients; responds well to regular fertilisation with improved density and colour. Placement: Attach to hardscape or grow on mesh screens; works as a foreground carpet, wall, or midground accent. Propagation: Divide moss portions and re-attach to new surfaces; establishes readily in a wide range of conditions.
