Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)

Eichhornia crassipes, the Water Hyacinth, is one of the most powerful natural pond filtration plants available. The feathery purple root system absorbs enormous quantities of nitrates and phosphates, preventing algae growth. Beautiful purple flowers emerge above the water. Seasonal in Belgium — cannot overwinter outdoors.

Float freely on pond surface or in a mesh basket. Full sun for best growth and flowering. Remove excess plants before they cover more than 50% of pond surface. Cannot survive frost — bring indoors or treat as annual. Invasive in warm climates — do not release into natural waterways.
