Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes)

Pistia stratiotes, Water Lettuce, is a floating aquatic plant with rosettes of velvety pale-green leaves. Like Water Hyacinth, it rapidly absorbs excess nutrients from pond and aquarium water, helping to control algae. Also suitable for indoor aquariums as a shading and nutrient-removal plant.

Float freely. Prefers warm water (20–30°C) and high humidity. Needs strong light — indoors use bright grow lights. Cannot survive frost. In Belgian ponds: seasonal use April–September. Can be kept as a houseplant over winter in humid conditions. Excellent for shrimp tanks — provides shelter.
