Ceratopteris cornuta
Origin: Pantropical
The floating form of Ceratopteris cornuta produces broad, bright-green fronds that spread across the water surface, providing excellent shade and cover for surface-dwelling fish and shade-preferring species below. A prolific and exceptionally easy-to-grow plant that spreads via plantlets produced on the margins of mature fronds. It doubles as a natural nitrogen export mechanism, absorbing nutrients directly from the water column through its submerged root structure.
Float freely on the water surface under medium to high light. Temperature 20–30°C. Produces daughter plantlets on leaf margins — separate and redistribute to maintain coverage. CO2 not required; grows well under standard aquarium lighting. Trim excess growth regularly in smaller tanks. Compatible with virtually all tropical community fish. Excellent for breeding tanks as fry shelter.
