Freshwater Fan Shrimp (Atya sp. — South American)

A South American Atya species fan shrimp available in limited quantities from specialist suppliers, differing from the more common Southeast Asian atyid shrimp in body shape, colour, and origin. Found in Andean foothill rivers and Amazonian tributary streams, these shrimp are filter feeders that position themselves against submerged wood and rocks to capture suspended organics. A rare and sought-after species for advanced filtration shrimp collectors.
