Lamprologus ocellatus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Lamprologus ocellatus 'Gold' is a tiny shell-dwelling cichlid from the sandy shores of Lake Tanganyika. Males are only 5–6 cm and females even smaller. They live in and defend empty snail shells (Neothauma tanganyicence), using them as breeding sites. One of the most fascinating nano cichlid species for species or biotope tanks.
Keep in a species or dedicated shell-dweller tank with a sandy substrate and numerous empty snail shells (Neothauma or similar). At least 60 L for a colony. Hard, alkaline water essential. Feed small cichlid pellets, frozen cyclops, and brine shrimp. Keep several females per male. Fascinating breeding behaviour.
